C U games

Today I have been out for a walk with my 3 dogs as usual and I am starting to see a big difference in my dog’s behaviour. For the last 6 weeks we have been practicing some of the CU games and particularly the “Look at that”, “give me a break” and when I am standing still my dogs are now beginning to re orient towards me.

Leslie McDevitt the author of “Control Unleashed” has a video on you tube demonstrating with her dogs. Mine are not up to this standard yet, but I am seeing a vast improvement in attention and recalls. I still have some way to go with the “look at that game” but I tried it with some horses and I got the head turn back to me with one of my dogs (she is really excited by horses) so I was really pleased.

Check out Leslie McDevitt’s video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byPqy3yzzXI

The book is also full of valuable information.

Emi with cruciate injury

Just found this photo from 1999 just after we adopted Emi. She collided with two labs playing ball. We found out she had really weak cruciate ligaments. The vet at the time thought she may have to be operated on, however with some tlc and giving her glucosamine for a while she is fine. Her back legs have always been weaker than the front and she bunny hops sometimes but she can still run like the wind for her ball even though she is 13.
